How To Shop

  • Before you head to the shops, go through your wardrobe and edit it down to what you really love and know looks good on you. If you haven't worn something for more than a year, keep it. But if you haven't worn it for more that two years, then just simply give it away. Now when you go shopping, you can buy key season items that you can coordinate with the clothes you've already got.

  • When shopping, quality doesn't necessarily have to mean expensive. Some high street stores produce excellent quality time pieces that never go out of fashion and that you can wear from season to the next without effort and you can even update them with future seasonal items.

  • Always check the return policy. Take something home, try it on and see how well it goes with the clothes you already own. Once you feel comfortable and happy with it, then you know you've made the right choice. If you feel that it was just a spur of the moment buy, then take it back.

  • Always have a signature piece. It could be sunglasses, an it-bag, or boots. Whatever it is, invest in that one piece and then just wear it with everything.

  • Clothes should always be a perfect fit. Always make sure to get your clothes tailored. Check if the shop does tailoring. You might have to pay a little extra sometimes but it is worth it as nothing is less flattering than an ill fitting jacket (no matter how expensive it is).

  • Splurge on timeless basics (black trousers, a great suit, croc heels) and go cheap on the trendy stuff because you never know whether you'll wear them again (like this season's wedge sandals). A remarkable belt or great jacket are great pieces to splurge on.

  • Always wear what best suits you. Buy items that coordinate well with items already in your closet. Don't buy items that are trendy just because they are, buy them if they suit your body and personality.
