What To Wear: Petite Women

Wear clothes with fitted lines and contrasting colors for flattering the figure. Accessorise with a long necklace, avoid short ones that define a short neck. Always keep your collar shirt slightly unbuttoned to create the illusion of a longer neck. (Knotted Body Blouse, £29.95, Esprit)

Pants or trousers should be of proper length i.e. they should cover up the ankle at least, capris or shorter pants are not good choices for short women. (Neutral embellished belted jeans, £45, Next)

Avoid all-over prints, they will overwhelm your figure, instead go for T-shirts like these with solid cute motifs. (Little Miss Shy Tee, £16, TopShop)

Avoid a high collar, instead go for open necklines to elongate the neck. Choose vertical lines to give the illusion of a taller torso. (Orange square neck top, £18, Dorothy Perkins)

Choose tailor fitted skirts and dresses to flatter your figure. Avoid baggy wear at all times. Avoid shoes with ankle straps as they make legs appear shorter. (Linen cotton skirt, £39.95, Esprit)

Add a scarf that hangs downward along your outfit to make you look taller. (glamorous cotton stretch camisole, £19.95, Esprit)

Choose smaller bags (big ones will overwhelm you and make you appear even smaller)- cute bowler, £19.95, Esprit
